The TPS62163DSGR is a high-efficiency 2A step-down DC-DC converter from Texas Instruments with a wide 3V-17V input range. Using TI’s proprietary DCS-Control (Direct Control with Seamless Transition) topology, it delivers fast transient response and seamless transition between PWM and PFM modes. The 2.5MHz switching frequency allows the use of tiny external components, while the 17µA quiescent current ensures minimal battery drain in light-load conditions.

The TPS62163DSGR uses DCS-Control topology, a proprietary regulation scheme that combines voltage-mode control with an additional feed-forward path for fast transient response. In PWM mode, the device operates at a fixed 2.5MHz frequency, switching the high-side and low-side integrated MOSFETs to regulate the output. As the load decreases, the device seamlessly transitions to PFM (pulse-frequency modulation) mode, reducing switching losses and maintaining high efficiency at light loads. The 100% duty cycle mode turns on the high-side MOSFET continuously when VIN approaches VOUT, minimizing dropout voltage.
