The TPS25921AD from Texas Instruments is a 4.5V-60V, 5A programmable eFuse designed for robust power rail protection in industrial and automotive applications. It integrates an N-channel MOSFET with 50mΩ on-resistance and comprehensive protection features including programmable overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, and reverse current blocking. The adjustable inrush current slew rate prevents voltage spikes during hot-swap events, while the fault output provides real-time status to the system controller.

The TPS25921AD uses an internal N-channel MOSFET as the pass element, controlled by a gate driver that regulates the MOSFET’s on-state and slew rate. During startup, the gate voltage ramps slowly to control inrush current into downstream capacitors (adjustable slew rate). In normal operation, the MOSFET is fully enhanced with 50mΩ on-resistance. The current sense amplifier monitors load current through an external sense resistor, tripping the MOSFET off when the programmed threshold is exceeded. The overvoltage comparator disables the MOSFET when VIN exceeds the programmed OVP threshold. Reverse current blocking uses a comparator to detect current flowing from OUT to IN and opens the MOSFET within microseconds.
