The EN5335QI from Intel is a 3A PowerSoC (Power System-on-Chip) synchronous buck converter that integrates the power MOSFETs, controller, and inductor into a single QFN-24 (7x4mm) package. This integration eliminates the need for external inductor selection, PCB layout optimization, and EMI filtering associated with discrete DC-DC converter designs. The 4MHz switching frequency provides fast transient response for demanding FPGA core rails, while the 93% peak efficiency and 8mVp-p output ripple deliver clean, efficient power in a fraction of the board area of traditional solutions.

The EN5335QI uses a current-mode synchronous buck topology operating at a fixed 4MHz switching frequency. The integrated inductor is fabricated using thick-film magnetic material deposited directly on the silicon die, providing the energy storage element without a discrete external component. The high-side and low-side MOSFETs are integrated on the same die as the controller, minimizing parasitic inductance and resistance in the power path. The current-mode control loop measures the inductor current directly and adjusts the duty cycle to maintain output regulation. The 4MHz frequency allows the control loop bandwidth to exceed 200kHz, providing sub-10µs transient recovery for FPGA load steps.
