The DRV8301DCAR from Texas Instruments is a highly integrated three-phase motor gate driver designed for BLDC and PMSM motor drive applications. It combines a 1.7A/2.3A gate driver for six external N-channel MOSFETs, a built-in 1.5A buck regulator for MCU power, and two current sense amplifiers with programmable gain (10-80V/V). The 6V-60V supply range covers automotive and industrial motor systems, while the SPI interface provides full configuration control and detailed fault reporting. The HTSSOP-28 PowerPAD package ensures efficient thermal management.

The DRV8301DCAR consists of three main subsystems: (1) Gate Driver — three half-bridge gate drivers with adaptive dead-time and charge-pump boosted gate drive for 100% duty cycle operation. Each driver provides 1.7A source / 2.3A sink peak current to rapidly charge/discharge external MOSFET gates. (2) Buck Regulator — a synchronous step-down converter that generates 5V or 3.3V at 1.5A from the motor supply voltage, powering the MCU and external logic without a separate voltage regulator. (3) Current Sense Amplifiers — two differential amplifiers that measure the voltage across external low-side shunt resistors, with programmable gains of 10, 20, 40, or 80 V/V. The SPI interface allows reading fault registers and adjusting gate drive strength, dead time, and CSA gain.
