System on Chip

A System on Chip (SoC) is a highly integrated IC chip. It packs most key components of an electronic system, like CPU, GPU, memory, communication modules, and sensor interfaces, onto one chip. This integration offers complete solutions for specific applications, cutting down external parts, shrinking board size, reducing power use, and boosting reliability and performance. SoCs are everywhere in electronics, from smartphones and tablets to IoT and wearable devices, and in automotive electronics.
SoCs handle diverse functions. Their CPU does complex computations, like running apps in a smartphone. The GPU renders graphics for a smooth visual experience, as in gaming on a tablet. They manage data storage both internally and with external devices. Communication is key, with wireless (Wi – Fi, Bluetooth, cellular) and sometimes wired (Ethernet) options for data transfer. Also, SoCs interface with sensors and control peripherals, enabling features like activity tracking in a smartwatch or in – car device management.
