The MPZ1608S101ATAH0 is a multilayer ferrite bead EMI suppressor from TDK in 1608 (0603 metric) package, rated at 100 Ohm impedance at 100MHz with 1A rated current, AEC-Q200 qualified for automotive applications. The S-series differs from the D-series (MPZ1608D101BTA00) in having a lower rated current (1A vs 2A) but higher impedance at 100MHz (100 Ohm typical vs 100 Ohm), with the S-series optimized for signal line applications where lower current handling is acceptable but EMI suppression is critical. The AEC-Q200 qualification ensures the device passes automotive-grade reliability tests: high-temperature storage (150C/1000h), temperature cycling (-55C to +125C/1000 cycles), bias humidity (85C/85%RH/1000h), and mechanical shock/vibration. The ferrite bead suppresses high-frequency noise by converting it to heat through magnetic hysteresis losses. At DC and low frequencies, the bead presents low impedance (less than 0.1 ohm), allowing signal currents to pass freely. At high frequencies (100MHz and above), the impedance rises to the rated 100 Ohm, attenuating EMI noise. The impedance-frequency characteristic follows: Z = R + jX, where the resistive component (R) dominates above the resonant frequency, converting noise energy to heat. The -ATAH0 suffix specifies tape-and-reel, AEC-Q200, automotive grade. Applications include: automotive CAN/LIN bus EMI filtering, infotainment signal line protection, and ADAS sensor interface filtering.
