The ISO3082DW is an isolated full-duplex RS-485/RS-422 transceiver from Texas Instruments designed for robust industrial communication. It integrates 2500V RMS galvanic isolation between the logic and bus sides, eliminating ground loops and providing protection against high-voltage transients. The device supports data rates up to 1Mbps and features integrated ±8kV IEC ESD protection on bus pins, ensuring reliable operation in electrically harsh environments such as factory automation and motor drive systems.

The ISO3082DW consists of two galvanically isolated sections connected by silicon dioxide isolation barriers. The logic side interfaces with the host MCU at 3.3V or 5V logic levels, while the bus side drives the RS-485/RS-422 differential bus at 5V. Data is transferred across the isolation barrier using on-chip transformer coupling. In full-duplex mode, the driver and receiver operate simultaneously on separate differential pairs. The receiver features fail-safe biasing that guarantees a logic-high output when the bus is open, shorted, or idle, preventing false data reception.
