SP3232EEY-L/TR

The SP3232EEY-L/TR from MaxLinear is a 3.0V to 5.5V RS-232 transceiver providing 2 drivers and 2 receivers in a compact 16-pin TSSOP package. Pin-compatible with the industry-standard MAX3232, it offers a cost-effective alternative. The internal charge pump generates +/-5.5V RS-232 levels from a single supply using only 4 external 0.1uF capacitors. ±15kV HBM ESD protection on RS-232 pins provides robust protection. Auto-powerdown reduces supply current to 1uA when no valid RS-232 signal is detected.

The SP3232E uses a dual charge pump to generate positive and negative voltage rails from a single 3.0V to 5.5V supply. The first stage doubles VCC to approximately +5.5V, and the second inverts this to approximately -5.5V. These rails power the driver output stages which swing between +5.5V and -5.5V for RS-232 compliance. The receivers accept RS-232 input levels and convert to TTL/CMOS logic levels. Auto-powerdown monitors receiver inputs and enters low-power mode when no valid signal is detected.
