The SP213ECA-L/TR is a 3-driver/5-receiver RS-232 transceiver from MaxLinear (formerly Sipex) in SSOP-24, operating from 3.0V to 5.5V with data rates up to 120kbps. It integrates three line drivers that convert TTL/CMOS logic levels (0-3.3V or 0-5V) to RS-232 levels (+/-5V to +/-7V) using an internal charge-pump voltage converter. The dual charge pump uses four external 0.1uF capacitors: two for the voltage doubler (VCC to +2xVCC) and two for the voltage inverter (+2xVCC to -2xVCC). The driver output swing is typically +/-6.5V at 5V supply and +/-5.0V at 3.3V supply, exceeding the RS-232 minimum of +/-5V. The five receivers convert RS-232 input levels (as low as +/-3V) to TTL/CMOS logic levels. Three of the five receivers are always active (RIN1-RIN3), while the remaining two can be enabled/disabled via the EN pin. The SHDN (shutdown) pin reduces power consumption to 1uA by disabling the charge pump and all outputs. The -L suffix indicates the low-voltage (3.0-5.5V) version; the -/TR suffix indicates tape-and-reel packaging. The 3-driver/5-receiver configuration is optimized for a standard serial port with full modem control (TX, RX, RTS, CTS, DSR, DTR, DCD, RI).
