The ISL83070EIBZA-T is a 3.3V RS-485/RS-422 half-duplex transceiver from Renesas (formerly Intersil) in SOIC-8, supporting data rates up to 20Mbps. The E suffix indicates enhanced ESD protection of +/-15kV HBM and +/-8kV IEC 61000-4-2 on the bus pins. The driver output differential voltage is 1.5V minimum into a 54-ohm load (standard RS-485 compliance). The receiver input impedance is 1/4 unit load (96k-ohm), allowing up to 128 devices on the bus. The fail-safe feature ensures RO is HIGH when the bus is open, shorted, or idle. The DE and RE pins have internal pull-down resistors, ensuring the device powers up in receive mode (DE=LOW, RE=LOW). The driver propagation delay is 8ns at 20Mbps, enabling high-speed communication. The supply current is 2.5mA active and 0.1uA in shutdown (when DE=LOW and RE=HIGH). The extended common-mode range of -7V to +12V on the bus pins allows operation in noisy industrial environments. The device includes thermal shutdown protection at 165C. The IBZA-T suffix specifies SOIC-8 with enhanced ESD, industrial temperature (-40C to +85C), tape-and-reel. The device is suitable for PROFIBUS, Modbus, and other RS-485-based industrial communication protocols.
