The FT232RL-REEL from FTDI is a single-chip USB to serial UART interface IC in 28-pin SSOP. It handles the entire USB protocol on-chip, requiring no firmware programming. Integrates internal EEPROM, clock generation, USB termination resistors, and 3.3V LDO. Supports 300 baud to 3 Mbaud with FTDIChip-ID security and bit-bang modes.

The FT232RL-REEL from FTDI is one of the most widely used USB-to-UART bridge ICs. It integrates all USB-specific functions including protocol engine, transceiver, clock, EEPROM, and termination resistors into a 28-pin SSOP. No USB firmware development required. The integrated EEPROM stores USB descriptors and CBUS configurations, programmable in-circuit via USB. -REEL suffix denotes tape-and-reel packaging.

Bridges USB host to UART serial port. The SIE handles USB protocol. Data from USB is buffered in 128-byte RX FIFO then serialized out TXD. UART data is buffered in 256-byte TX FIFO then sent to USB. VCCIO sets UART I/O voltage (1.8-5.25V). Five CBUS pins configurable via EEPROM for TX/RX LED, RS-485 TXEN, PWREN, SLEEP. FTDIChip-ID provides unique 32-bit identifier per device.
