The DSPIC30F6014A-30I/PF from Microchip Technology is a 16-bit digital signal controller combining MCU control features with DSP computational capability. The modified Harvard architecture uses 24-bit wide instructions and 16-bit data paths, delivering up to 30 MIPS. The integrated DSP engine features dual 40-bit accumulators, a 17×17 single-cycle multiplier, and a 40-stage barrel shifter for efficient signal processing algorithms. The dual CAN 2.0B controllers support automotive and industrial networking. The 12-bit 200 ksps ADC provides precision analog acquisition. With 144 KB Flash and 8 KB RAM, the device supports complex control algorithms and communication stacks.

The DSPIC30F6014A uses a modified Harvard architecture with separate program and data memory buses. The 24-bit instruction word enables complex operations to be encoded in a single instruction. The DSP engine operates in parallel with the MCU core, providing hardware support for multiply-accumulate (MAC) operations that are fundamental to digital filters (FIR, IIR), FFT, and PID control algorithms. The dual 40-bit accumulators with saturation logic prevent overflow during long computation chains. The 17×17 multiplier executes in a single cycle, supporting both fractional and integer multiplication. The CAN controllers handle complete CAN 2.0B protocol including bit timing, message filtering, and error management autonomously.
