The DS1308U-33+T from Maxim is a real-time clock IC with I2C interface, 32.768kHz crystal oscillator, and battery backup in SOIC-8 for timekeeping applications.

The DS1308U-33+T is a real-time clock (RTC) from Maxim Integrated in SOIC-8 that tracks seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year with automatic leap-year compensation up to 2100. The timekeeping core is driven by an external 32.768kHz crystal connected to X1/X2 pins. The internal oscillator circuit is optimized for 6pF crystal load capacitance, and the oscillator continues running on VBAT when VCC is removed, consuming only 300nA typical. The I2C interface (SDA/SCL) operates at 400kHz, allowing the host MCU to read/write time registers. The SQW/OUT pin provides a programmable square wave output at 1Hz, 4.096kHz, 8.192kHz, or 32.768kHz, useful for periodic interrupts or system tick generation. The -33+T suffix indicates 3.3V operation and tape-and-reel packaging. The power-switch circuit automatically selects VCC when present and falls back to VBAT when VCC drops below VBAT, ensuring uninterrupted timekeeping during power outages.
