The MCZ33810EKR2 from NXP Semiconductors (formerly Freescale) is an eight-channel output driver IC designed for automotive engine control applications. It integrates four low-side injector drivers and four low-side gate pre-drivers that can function as either ignition IGBT gate pre-drivers or general-purpose MOSFET gate pre-drivers. In IGBT mode, additional features include spark duration timer, dwell time control, and ignition coil current sensing. The device communicates with the MCU via a 3.3V/5V SPI interface and provides comprehensive fault diagnostics.

The MCZ33810EKR2 operates in two main modes. In ignition (IGBT) mode, the gate pre-drivers (GD0-GD3) control external IGBTs for ignition coil driving. The feedback inputs (FB0-FB3) monitor IGBT collector voltage for spark duration timing and secondary clamp control. A current sense amplifier monitors coil current through external sense resistors, comparing it against programmable NOMI and MAXI thresholds. In general-purpose gate driver (GPGD) mode, the pre-drivers control external MOSFETs with short-circuit and open-circuit detection via drain voltage monitoring. All four injector drivers (OUT0-OUT3) are open-drain outputs with active drain clamping for inductive turn-off protection.
