The device is ideal for small wireless communicators, notebook PCs, PDAs, and any application requiring both a mono speaker and stereo headphone output. From a 5 V supply, the TPA0211 delivers 2 W of power into a 4 Ω speaker with 93 dB SNR and 0.2% THD+N. The gain of the input stage is set by a user-selected input resistor and a 50 kΩ internal feedback resistor. The power stage is internally configured with a gain of -2.5 V/V in BTL mode, resulting in an overall gain of -125 kΩ/RI. The device operates over a wide supply range of 2.5 V to 5.5 V and features a TTL-compatible shutdown pin with 1 µA typical shutdown current.

The TPA0211DGNR operates as a two-stage amplifier consisting of an input stage and a power output stage. The input stage is an inverting amplifier where the gain is set by the ratio of an internal 50 kΩ feedback resistor to the external input resistor (RI). The power output stage is a Class-AB bridge-tied-load (BTL) amplifier with an internally fixed gain of -2.5 V/V. In BTL mode, the two output amplifiers drive opposite ends of the speaker in anti-phase, effectively doubling the voltage swing across the load compared to a single-ended output, thus quadrupling the power delivered to the speaker for a given supply voltage. The device also supports single-ended (SE) mode for headphone drive, where the power stage gain is -1.25 V/V. The built-in de-pop circuitry minimizes audible clicks and pops during power-up and power-down transients. The PowerPAD on the package underside provides a low-thermal-resistance path to the PCB for efficient heat dissipation.
