It supports 4K 60Hz Ultra HD video at 50/60 Hz with 4:4:4 chroma subsampling as specified in the HDMI 2.0 standard. The device includes HDCP 2.2 repeater functionality for premium content protection, I2S audio extraction, and MHL 3.0 input support with Display Stream Compression (DSC) decompression. Housed in a compact 76-pin QFN EP package, it is designed for integration into 4K UHD displays, AV receivers, and multimedia equipment.

The SiI9396 operates as a multi-function HDMI bridge with three operational modes: receiver, transmitter, and repeater. In receiver mode, it decodes incoming HDMI 2.0 or MHL 3.0 TMDS signals, performing clock recovery, data decoding, and video/audio extraction. The HDCP 2.2 engine handles content authentication and decryption. In repeater mode, it re-encrypts and re-transmits the content to downstream devices while maintaining the HDCP content protection chain. The MHL 3.0 receiver supports DSC decompression for bandwidth-efficient 4K transport. I2S audio extraction separates multi-channel audio from the HDMI stream for external audio processing.
