With a pressure accuracy of +/-1hPa and low power consumption of 2.7uA at 1Hz, it is ideal for altitude tracking and weather monitoring in a compact 2.0×2.5mm LGA package.

The BMP280 from Bosch Sensortec is a high-precision, low-power digital barometric pressure sensor. It measures absolute pressure from 300hPa to 1100hPa with an accuracy of +/-1hPa and can derive altitude with approximately 1m resolution. The sensor also provides temperature measurement with +/-1.0C accuracy for on-chip temperature compensation. Multiple operating modes allow trade-offs between resolution and power consumption: ultra-low power mode draws only 2.7uA at 1Hz, while ultra-high resolution mode provides 0.01hPa resolution. The compact 2.5×2.0×0.95mm LGA package and dual I2C/SPI interface make it easy to integrate into portable and wearable devices.

The BMP280 uses a piezoresistive MEMS pressure sensing element whose resistance changes with applied atmospheric pressure. The sensing element is connected in a Wheatstone bridge configuration and its output is digitized by an internal ADC. Factory-calibrated compensation parameters stored in non-volatile memory correct for offset, sensitivity, and temperature drift. The on-chip temperature sensor provides the reference for pressure compensation. The device supports three power modes: sleep (0.1uA), forced (one measurement on demand), and normal (continuous periodic measurements with configurable standby time). The IIR filter can be configured to reduce short-term disturbances from wind or door slamming.
