The LAN7500I-ABZJ from Microchip is a high-performance USB 2.0 to 10/100/1000 Ethernet controller in a 56-pin QFN package. It integrates a complete Gigabit Ethernet MAC and PHY, requiring only external magnetics and RJ-45 connector. The USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface provides sufficient bandwidth for fast Ethernet operation. Integrated checksum offload reduces CPU overhead. Wake-on-LAN enables remote system wake-up. The industrial temperature grade suits harsh environments. Energy Efficient Ethernet (IEEE 802.3az) reduces power at low data activity.

The LAN7500I bridges USB and Ethernet protocols. On the USB side, it enumerates as a network device, receiving Ethernet frames via USB bulk transfers. On the Ethernet side, the integrated Gigabit PHY handles physical layer encoding/decoding (1000Base-T with DSP echo cancellation), while the MAC handles frame formatting, CRC, and flow control. The checksum offload engine calculates and verifies IPv4/TCP/UDP checksums in hardware. For Wake-on-LAN, the controller monitors incoming packets for magic frames and signals the host via USB remote wakeup.
