The MCP4921-E/SN is a single channel 12-bit buffered voltage output Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) from Microchip Technology. It uses an external voltage reference pin and SPI interface. The device provides high accuracy and low noise performance suitable for consumer and industrial applications. The resistive string architecture ensures low DNL error and fast settling time. Double-buffered input registers allow synchronous updates using the LDAC pin. The device is AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified, making it suitable for automotive applications.

The MCP4921-E/SN uses a resistive string DAC architecture where the 12-bit digital input code selects a tap point on a resistor divider chain between VREF and ground. The selected voltage is buffered by a rail-to-rail output amplifier with selectable gain of 1x or 2x. Data is written via SPI interface with a 16-bit command word containing configuration bits (gain selection, shutdown control) and the 12-bit DAC code. The LDAC pin allows double-buffered operation for synchronous output updates. An on-chip Power-On Reset (POR) circuit ensures the DAC output starts at a known state.
