The MCP4921-E/SN is a single channel 12-bit buffered voltage output Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) from Microchip Technology. It uses an external voltage reference pin and SPI interface. The MCP4921-E/SN uses a resistive string DAC architecture where the 12-bit digital input code selects a tap point on a resistor divider chain between VREF and ground. The selected voltage is buffered by a rail-to-rail output amplifier with selectable gain of 1x or 2x. Data is written via SPI interface with a 16-bit command word containing configuration bits (gain selection, shutdown control) and the 12-bit DAC code. The LDAC pin allows double-buffered operation for synchronous output updates. An on-chip Power-On Reset (POR) circuit ensures the DAC output starts at a known state.
