The MIC29302AWU-TR is a high-current, low-dropout voltage regulator from Microchip Technology using the proprietary Super Beta PNP process with a PNP pass element. The 3A LDO features 450 mV dropout voltage at full load and very low ground current. Designed for high-current loads, it also excels in lower current, low-dropout critical systems. The adjustable output can be set from 1.24V to 15V using two external resistors. The device includes comprehensive protection against overcurrent, reversed input, and overtemperature conditions.

The MIC29302AWU-TR uses a PNP pass transistor in a common-emitter configuration to achieve low dropout voltage. An error amplifier compares a fraction of the output voltage (set by external feedback resistors) with an internal 1.24V bandgap reference, and drives the PNP pass element to maintain regulation. The EN pin enables TTL/CMOS-controlled shutdown, reducing supply current to near zero. The error flag output becomes active when the output drops out of regulation. Current limiting and thermal shutdown provide fault protection. The Super Beta PNP process minimizes base current, resulting in very low ground current.
