The SN74LV1T125DCKR from Texas Instruments is a single-bit buffer/line driver with 3-state output in an ultra-compact SC-70-5 package. The device features over-voltage tolerant inputs that can accept signals up to 5.5V regardless of the supply voltage, making it suitable for level translation from higher-voltage logic to lower-voltage logic. The 1.65V to 5.5V supply range supports operation from 1.8V to 5V systems. The active-low output enable (OE#) allows the output to be placed in a high-impedance state, enabling bus sharing with other drivers. The 3.2 ns typical propagation delay at 5V supports high-speed signal buffering. The +/-16 mA output drive at 5V provides sufficient current to drive multiple logic inputs or moderate-length PCB traces. The SC-70-5 package occupies only 2.0 x 1.25 mm of board space, ideal for dense designs.

The SN74LV1T125DCKR consists of a single buffer gate with a 3-state output controlled by the active-low output enable (OE#) pin. When OE# is LOW, the buffer is enabled and the output follows the input (non-inverting). When OE# is HIGH, the output is placed in a high-impedance (Hi-Z) state, effectively disconnecting the output from the bus. The input stage uses a tolerant input structure that clamps the input voltage through ESD diodes to the VCC rail and GND. The over-voltage tolerance feature is achieved by isolating the input buffer from the VCC supply, allowing input voltages up to 5.5V even when VCC is as low as 1.65V. When used for level translation, a 5V input signal can drive the input while the output swings between GND and the lower VCC (e.g., 1.8V or 3.3V), effectively down-translating the logic level. Up-translation is also supported: a 1.8V input signal can drive the input while VCC is 3.3V, with the output swinging between GND and 3.3V.
