SMAJ58A-13-F

The SMAJ58A-13-F from Diodes Incorporated is a 600W unidirectional transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode in an SMA (DO-214AC) package. With 58V reverse standoff voltage and 93.1V maximum clamping voltage at 6.44A peak pulse current, it protects 48V power rails from ESD, EFT, and surge transients. The device complies with IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD), IEC 61000-4-4 (EFT), and IEC 61000-4-5 (surge) standards. Low 1uA leakage current at standoff voltage minimizes standby power draw. The SMA package provides reliable surface-mount protection in a compact footprint.

The SMAJ58A-13-F operates as an avalanche diode that remains in a high-impedance off-state when the voltage across it is below the breakdown voltage (64.4-71.4V). When a transient voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage, the device avalanches and conducts heavily, clamping the voltage to a safe level (93.1V max at rated current). The energy from the transient is dissipated as heat in the semiconductor junction. Once the transient subsides, the device returns to its high-impedance state. The unidirectional configuration blocks DC in the forward direction (like a normal diode), protecting DC power rails where voltage polarity is fixed.
