The SKY85747-11 from Skyworks Solutions is a highly integrated 5 GHz front-end module designed for high-power 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) networking applications. The module incorporates a single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) transmit/receive switch, a high-gain low-noise amplifier (LNA) with bypass, and a power amplifier (PA) in a single compact package. The PA delivers +18.5 dBm output power at -43 dB DEVM for MCS11 802.11ax signals with 34.5 dB transmit gain. The LNA provides 16 dB gain with 2.0 dB typical noise figure and jammer tolerance with IIP3 up to +11 dBm. An integrated logarithmic power detector provides closed-loop power control over 20 dB of dynamic range, and a directional coupler supports digital predistortion (DPD). The device is packaged in a 24-pin 3 x 5 mm LGA, reducing front-end board space by more than 50%.

The SKY85747-11 integrates three RF signal path subsystems controlled by two logic pins (PA_EN, LNA_EN). (1) Transmit Path: The PA consists of three gain stages (VCC1, VCC2, VCC3) optimized for high linearity and efficiency at 5 V supply. The integrated log detector monitors output power and provides a proportional DC voltage (20-24 mV/dB slope) for closed-loop APC. The directional coupler (CPLR pin) samples forward power for DPD feedback. (2) Receive Path: The LNA is a low-noise GaAs pHEMT design with 16 dB gain and 2.0 dB NF, featuring a bypass mode that degrades gain by approximately 23 dB for high-signal conditions. The SPDT T/R switch routes the antenna signal to either the PA output or LNA input. (3) Control Logic: PA_EN enables the transmit chain and T/R switch to TX position; LNA_EN enables the receive chain and T/R switch to RX position. Both pins low puts the device in idle mode with minimal leakage current.
