The BSP452 from Infineon Technologies is a monolithic smart high-side power switch that integrates an N-channel power MOSFET with its gate driver, charge pump, and comprehensive protection circuits in a compact SOT-223 package. The device operates from a 5V to 45V supply and can switch loads up to 2.2A continuous current with a typical on-resistance of 200mOhm. The CMOS-compatible logic input (IN) allows direct interface with 3.3V or 5V microcontrollers, while the integrated charge pump ensures the MOSFET is fully enhanced even at low supply voltages. Protection features include overtemperature shutdown with automatic restart, short-circuit current limitation, and overvoltage clamping.

The BSP452 operates as a fully integrated smart high-side power switch. (1) The input logic (IN pin) controls the gate driver circuit, which drives the internal N-channel power MOSFET between the VS (supply) and OUT (load) terminals. The integrated charge pump generates a gate voltage above VS to fully enhance the MOSFET, ensuring low on-resistance even at low supply voltages. (2) The overtemperature protection monitors the die temperature and shuts down the MOSFET when the junction exceeds the threshold. After cooling by the hysteresis margin, the device automatically restarts. (3) The short-circuit protection limits the output current when a fault is detected, and the status flag (ST) is asserted to signal the fault to the microcontroller.
