The SI8234BB-D-IS1R from Skyworks is an automotive-grade dual-channel isolated gate driver with 4A peak output, 2500 Vrms isolation, and >20 kV/µs CMTI. Using capacitive coupling with overlapping protection for half-bridge driving, it is AEC-Q100 qualified for automotive OBC, motor drives, solar inverters, and industrial SMPS in an SOIC-16W package with UL, CSA, VDE, and CQC approvals.

The SI8234BB-D-IS1R uses capacitive coupling with silicon dioxide (SiO2) dielectric barriers to transmit gate drive signals across the isolation boundary. High-frequency carrier signals are modulated by the input PWM, transmitted through the isolation capacitors, and demodulated on the secondary side to reconstruct the gate drive signals. The D suffix version provides overlapping protection: if both VDDI (input side) and the output supply are present but the input signals command both high-side and low-side outputs ON simultaneously, the device blocks one output to prevent shoot-through. Each output channel has independent undervoltage lockout (UVLO) that disables the output when the supply is insufficient for full gate enhancement. The capacitive coupling provides >20 kV/µs common-mode transient immunity, ensuring reliable operation in noisy switching environments with high dv/dt transitions.
