The SI8421AB-D-ISR from Skyworks (Silicon Labs) is a 2-channel digital isolator with 1 forward and 1 reverse channel, providing 2500Vrms isolation using capacitive coupling. Supports up to 150Mbps with ultra-low propagation delay (<10ns) and 1.5ns pulse width distortion. Ultra-low power consumption (<2.1mA/ch at 1Mbps). Wide 2.7-5.5V supply. UL1577, CSA, and VDE certified. 25kV/us CMTI.

Uses capacitive isolation with on-chip transformers fabricated in a CMOS process. Data is encoded and transmitted across the isolation barrier as high-frequency pulses via capacitors. The receiver decodes the pulses back to digital signals. A refresh mechanism continuously updates the output state. The bidirectional (1F/1R) configuration enables isolated SPI or UART where one signal goes forward (e.g., MOSI/TX) and one returns (e.g., MISO/RX). No initialization is needed at startup.
