The PS2805-1-F3-A from CEL (California Eastern Labs) is a photocoupler consisting of a GaAlAs infrared LED optically coupled to a silicon phototransistor in a compact 4-pin SOP surface-mount package. The device provides 5000Vrms isolation voltage and a CTR (current transfer ratio) of 80-160% at IF=5mA for the A rank. The 80V collector-emitter voltage and 50mA collector current support general-purpose switching and signal isolation. The GaAlAs LED provides higher CTR and better linearity than GaAs LED alternatives. The SOP-4 package has a 2.3mm creepage distance, suitable for basic insulation requirements. The F3 suffix denotes the SOP-4 surface-mount package.

The PS2805-1-F3-A operates as a phototransistor photocoupler. (1) LED Input: Forward current through the GaAlAs LED generates infrared light at approximately 940nm. The GaAlAs LED provides higher radiant efficiency than traditional GaAs LEDs, resulting in higher CTR. (2) Optical Coupling: The infrared light crosses the isolation barrier and illuminates the base region of the phototransistor. (3) Phototransistor Output: The photogenerated base current drives the phototransistor. The collector current IC = CTR x IF. For the A rank (80-160%), at IF=5mA, IC ranges from 4mA to 8mA. (4) Isolation: The transparent dielectric between LED and phototransistor provides 5kVrms galvanic isolation, meeting safety requirements for industrial and ITE equipment.
