The PIC18F452-I/PT is a high-performance 8-bit microcontroller from Microchip Technology based on the PIC18 architecture with 16-bit wide instructions for improved code efficiency. The device integrates 32 KB of self-programmable Flash memory with 100,000 write/erase cycle endurance, 1536 bytes of SRAM, and 256 bytes of EEPROM data memory. Running at up to 40 MHz with an 8 MHz internal oscillator and PLL option, it delivers up to 10 MIPS performance. The peripheral set includes an 8-channel 10-bit ADC at 100 ksps, an Enhanced CAN 2.0B module with 3 transmit and 2 receive buffers, an MSSP supporting both SPI and I2C, a full-duplex USART, and four timers including two 16-bit enhanced timers with PWM output. Housed in a 44-pin TQFP package rated for the industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

The PIC18F452 uses Microchip’s PIC18 core architecture featuring a 16-bit instruction word and 8-bit data path. The CPU fetches 16-bit instructions from Flash via a 21-bit program counter, enabling direct addressing of the entire 2 MB program space. Instructions execute in a single cycle (100 ns at 40 MHz), with program branches taking two cycles. The hardware multiplier performs 8×8 unsigned multiply in a single cycle. The 10-bit successive approximation ADC converts analog inputs through a sample-and-hold circuit and channel multiplexer. The CAN module implements the full CAN 2.0B protocol with hardware message filtering, reducing CPU overhead for bus communication. Self-programming allows Flash updates via a bootloader without external programming hardware.
