The LTC2606IDD-1#TRPBF from Analog Devices is a single-channel 16-bit rail-to-rail voltage-output digital-to-analog converter with an I2C serial interface in a compact 3 mm x 3 mm DFN-8 package. The device provides 16-bit monotonicity with ±4 LSB maximum integral nonlinearity and 0.02% typical gain error, delivering precision voltage generation for calibration and control applications. The rail-to-rail output amplifier swings to within a few millivolts of both supply rails, maximizing the usable output range. The external reference input accepts voltages from 0 V to VDD, allowing the full-scale output to be set independently of the supply voltage. The I2C interface supports standard (100 kHz) and fast (400 kHz) modes with three address pins allowing up to 27 devices on the same bus. Power-on reset sets the output to zero-scale, ensuring a defined startup state. The -1 suffix indicates the output span configuration.

The LTC2606IDD-1 uses a segmented R-2R DAC architecture with 16-bit resolution. The digital input code is received via I2C and stored in an input register. A double-buffered architecture allows the input register to be updated without affecting the active DAC register, enabling synchronous output updates across multiple devices on the same I2C bus. The DAC core converts the 16-bit digital code to a proportional current, which is converted to a voltage by the integrated rail-to-rail output amplifier. The output voltage equals VREF x (Code / 65536) for the -1 configuration. The segmented architecture uses decoded upper bits to switch entire R-2R segments, reducing glitch energy during major-carry transitions. The 10 µs settling time includes both the DAC core response and the output amplifier settling to 0.5 LSB.
