The M24C64-FMN6TP from STMicroelectronics is a 64 Kbit (8 KB) I2C serial EEPROM with high endurance and long data retention. The device supports I2C bus speeds up to 1 MHz for fast data access. The 1.7 V to 5.5 V supply range enables operation from low-voltage microcontrollers to 5 V systems. The 32-byte page write mode allows efficient multi-byte programming in a single write cycle. With 4 million erase/write cycle endurance and 200-year data retention, the device is suitable for applications requiring frequent parameter updates with long-term reliability.

The M24C64-FMN6TP communicates via the I2C serial bus using SDA (data) and SCL (clock) lines. The device is accessed by sending a start condition followed by the device address byte (1010 A2 A1 A0 R/W). Three address pins (E0, E1, E2) allow up to eight devices on the same bus. For write operations, the master sends the 16-bit memory address followed by data bytes. Up to 32 bytes can be written in a single page write cycle. For read operations, the master sends the address then restarts with a read command. The EEPROM uses a floating-gate NMOS transistor cell where charge stored on the floating gate determines the stored bit value. Writing applies a high voltage to inject electrons onto the floating gate, while erasing removes the charge. The 4 million cycle endurance is achieved through ST’s advanced EEPROM cell technology and wear-leveling software techniques.
