The LTC3615EUF from Analog Devices is a high-current monolithic synchronous step-down DC/DC converter delivering up to 6 A output from a 2.25 V to 5.5 V input. The device integrates 22 mOhm combined on-resistance top and bottom MOSFET switches in a compact QFN-28 package. Switching frequency is programmable from 500 kHz to 4 MHz via an external RT resistor and can be synchronized to an external clock. The device supports Burst Mode operation for high efficiency at light loads, or forced continuous operation for lower output ripple. The 0.6 V reference voltage allows output voltages as low as 0.6 V. 100% duty cycle operation enables low dropout in applications where VIN approaches VOUT.

The LTC3615EUF uses a constant-frequency current-mode control architecture. The internal oscillator sets the switching frequency (500 kHz to 4 MHz) via the RT pin. The integrated top and bottom MOSFET switches (22 mOhm combined RDS(on)) alternate to step down the input voltage. Current-mode control simplifies loop compensation and provides cycle-by-cycle current limiting. In Burst Mode, the device delivers energy in controlled bursts and enters sleep between bursts, reducing switching losses at light loads. The MODE/SYNC pin selects operating mode and accepts an external clock for synchronization. The 0.6 V feedback reference is compared against the output voltage divided by the external resistor divider. The 100% duty cycle capability keeps the top switch on continuously when VIN drops close to VOUT, minimizing dropout voltage.
