The RMK-5-751+ from Mini-Circuits is a cost-effective X5 frequency multiplier designed for RF and microwave applications requiring frequency up-conversion. It utilizes specially selected silicon Schottky diodes and integrated filter circuitry to achieve low conversion loss (22dB typical) while maintaining high rejection of unwanted harmonics near the F5 output. With an input frequency range of 100-150MHz and output range of 500-750MHz, the device requires only 17dBm of input power to produce approximately -10dBm output. The adjacent harmonic rejection is exceptional, with F4 rejection of 60dBc and F2 rejection of 62dBc typical, ensuring clean output signals for downstream RF stages.

The RMK-5-751+ operates through two key signal processing stages. (1) The nonlinear multiplication stage uses silicon Schottky diodes driven at 17dBm input power to generate rich harmonic content at integer multiples of the fundamental input frequency (100-150MHz). The Schottky diode’s nonlinear I-V characteristic produces harmonics at F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F7, and beyond. (2) The bandpass filter stage selects the 5th harmonic (F5) at the output while attenuating all other harmonic products. The integrated filter provides 60dBc rejection of F4, 62dBc rejection of F2, and 67dBc rejection of F6 typical, resulting in a clean 500-750MHz output signal from the 100-150MHz input. The conversion loss of 22dB represents the ratio of F5 output power to fundamental input power.
