The MCP4812T-E/SN from Microchip Technology is a dual-channel 10-bit voltage output digital-to-analog converter with an internal 2.048 V reference and SPI interface. The device provides rail-to-rail output with selectable unity or 2x gain, allowing output ranges of 0-2.048 V or 0-4.096 V. Double-buffered input registers enable synchronous updates of both DAC outputs via the LDAC pin. The resistive string DAC architecture inherently provides low DNL error (±0.1 LSB) and fast 4.5 us settling time. The 415 uA typical supply current supports battery-powered applications. AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualification ensures operation in demanding automotive environments.

The MCP4812T-E/SN uses a resistive string (R-2R) DAC architecture where each channel has a resistor ladder network driven by the internal 2.048 V reference. The 10-bit digital code selects tap points on the resistor string, producing an analog voltage proportional to the code. The output buffer amplifier provides rail-to-rail output swing and drives external loads. The gain selection bit in the SPI command configures the output amplifier for unity gain (0 to VREF) or 2x gain (0 to 2×VREF). SPI communication writes a 16-bit command word containing channel select, gain bit, shutdown bit, and 10-bit data code. The double-buffered architecture holds new data in an input register until the LDAC pin is asserted, allowing both channels to update simultaneously. Power-on Reset clears all registers to zero-scale output.
