The DAC7614E/1K from Texas Instruments is a quad 12-bit voltage output digital-to-analog converter with an SPI-compatible serial interface. Each of the four DAC channels features a rail-to-rail output amplifier and 12-bit monotonicity guaranteed. The device operates from a single 5 V supply and uses an external reference input for flexible output range configuration (0 V to VREF). Double-buffered input registers allow simultaneous update of all four outputs via the LDAC pin. An asynchronous reset function clears all registers to zero. The serial interface supports daisy-chaining of multiple devices, making it suitable for systems requiring many analog output channels.

The DAC7614E/1K uses an R-2R resistor ladder network for each 12-bit DAC channel. Serial data is clocked into the input shift register via the SDI pin using the CLK signal. The first 12 bits set the DAC code, and additional bits select the DAC channel address. When CS goes high, the data is transferred from the shift register to the selected DAC’s input register. The LDAC pin, when pulsed low, transfers data from all input registers to the DAC registers simultaneously, updating all outputs at the same time. Each DAC converts its 12-bit digital code to an analog voltage using the R-2R ladder and an output buffer amplifier that swings rail-to-rail from 0 V to VREF.
