The AP62301WU-7 from Diodes Incorporated is a 3 A synchronous step-down DC-DC converter with integrated 65 mOhm high-side and 40 mOhm low-side MOSFETs. The wide 4.5 V to 40 V input range supports a variety of power source configurations including 12 V, 24 V, and battery supplies. The device operates at a fixed 500 kHz switching frequency with internal loop compensation, requiring only external input/output capacitors, an inductor, and feedback resistors. The EN pin provides enable/disable control with a precision threshold. PWM/PFM mode switching maintains high efficiency across the load range. The compact TSOT26 package minimizes board area for space-constrained designs.

The AP62301WU-7 uses a constant-frequency current-mode control architecture with integrated power MOSFETs. The internal oscillator generates a 500 kHz clock. During each switching cycle, the high-side MOSFET turns on, connecting the input voltage to the inductor through the SW node. The inductor current ramps up linearly. When the peak inductor current reaches the level set by the error amplifier, the high-side MOSFET turns off and the low-side MOSFET turns on, allowing the inductor current to freewheel through the low-side switch. The error amplifier compares the feedback voltage (from the external resistor divider) with the 0.8 V internal reference and adjusts the peak current threshold to regulate the output. At light loads, the device enters PFM mode where switching cycles are skipped to reduce switching losses. The internal soft start gradually increases the current limit during startup to prevent inrush current overshoot.
