The PAM8302A from Diodes Incorporated is a 2.5W mono Class-D audio power amplifier that operates from a single 2.0V to 5.5V supply. Its filterless architecture eliminates the need for an external LC output filter in most applications, reducing BOM cost and board space. With up to 90% efficiency, the device requires no heatsink even at maximum output power. Pop-and-click suppression circuitry ensures clean power-on/off transitions. The SOT-23-6 package provides a compact footprint for space-constrained portable audio applications.

The PAM8302A employs a filterless Class-D PWM modulation scheme. **Modulation**: The analog input signal is compared against a high-frequency triangular waveform (typically 250kHz) to generate a PWM signal. The duty cycle of the PWM output is proportional to the instantaneous input voltage. **Output Stage**: A BTL (Bridge-Tied Load) H-bridge output drives the speaker differentially, doubling the voltage swing compared to single-ended amplifiers. The high-frequency PWM carrier is above the audible range and is filtered by the inherent inductance of the speaker coil. **Filterless Operation**: The speaker itself acts as a low-pass filter due to its inductive nature, recovering the audio signal from the PWM carrier. The remaining high-frequency energy is dissipated as heat in the speaker coil without audible effect. **EMI Management**: Spread-spectrum modulation or controlled slew rates minimize EMI emissions, allowing filterless operation to pass FCC/CE radiated emission limits with short speaker wires.
