The TPS7A2550DRVR is a Texas Instruments 300mA low-dropout linear regulator with 5.0V fixed output in a 6-pin WSON package. The standout feature is the 2uA quiescent current, among the lowest for 18V-input LDOs, making it ideal for always-on battery-powered and industrial systems where standby power consumption is critical. The 2.4V to 18V input range supports direct connection to 12V and 24V industrial bus rails, as well as multi-cell battery packs. The 340mV maximum dropout at full 300mA load allows efficient operation with minimal headroom. The 1% output accuracy over temperature provides reliable supply for microcontroller and sensor references. The power-good (PG) open-drain output can hold an MCU in reset until the output is valid, enabling controlled power sequencing. Active overshoot pulldown prevents output voltage overshoot during transient load conditions. Built-in current limit and thermal shutdown protect against fault conditions. The WSON package with exposed thermal pad provides good power dissipation in a compact 2x2mm footprint. Packaged in 6-pin WSON rated for -40C to +125C.

The TPS7A25 uses a PMOS pass transistor for low dropout operation. The error amplifier compares a resistive divider tap of the output voltage with an internal bandgap reference, driving the PMOS gate to maintain regulation. The ultra-low 2uA quiescent current is achieved by operating the error amplifier and reference in a sub-threshold bias regime, consuming minimal current while maintaining regulation. When the output voltage drops below the PG threshold (typically 95% of nominal), the PG open-drain output pulls low, signaling power-not-good to the system. The PG pin can be wire-ORed with other PG outputs for multi-rail sequencing. The current limit circuit monitors the pass transistor current and reduces the gate drive when the limit is reached, operating in constant-current mode during overloads. Thermal shutdown disables the pass transistor when junction temperature exceeds the threshold (typically 165C), with automatic recovery when the device cools below the hysteresis point.
