The TPS7A25 uses a PMOS pass transistor for low dropout operation. The error amplifier compares a resistive divider tap of the output voltage with an internal bandgap reference, driving the PMOS gate to maintain regulation. The ultra-low 2uA quiescent current is achieved by operating the error amplifier and reference in a sub-threshold bias regime, consuming minimal current while maintaining regulation. When the output voltage drops below the PG threshold (typically 95% of nominal), the PG open-drain output pulls low, signaling power-not-good to the system. The PG pin can be wire-ORed with other PG outputs for multi-rail sequencing. The current limit circuit monitors the pass transistor current and reduces the gate drive when the limit is reached, operating in constant-current mode during overloads. Thermal shutdown disables the pass transistor when junction temperature exceeds the threshold (typically 165C), with automatic recovery when the device cools below the hysteresis point.
