The STM32F101V8T6 from STMicroelectronics is a medium-density access line 32-bit microcontroller based on the ARM Cortex-M3 core operating at up to 36MHz. As part of the access line (value-oriented) sub-family, the STM32F101 provides essential peripherals at a reduced cost compared to the performance line STM32F103. The device integrates 64KB of Flash memory and 10KB of SRAM. A single 12-bit ADC with up to 16 channels and 1us conversion time handles analog sensing. Communication interfaces include three USARTs (supporting LIN, IrDA, and ISO 7816 Smartcard), two SPIs (up to 18Mbit/s), and two I2Cs (SMBus/PMBus compatible). Six timers provide PWM generation, input capture, and watchdog functions. A 7-channel DMA controller offloads data transfer from the CPU. The 80 I/O pins in LQFP-100 package are nearly all 5V-tolerant and mappable to 16 external interrupt vectors. Low-power modes (Sleep, Stop, Standby) with VBAT backup extend battery life in portable applications.

The STM32F101V8T6 operates on the ARM Cortex-M3 core at reduced frequency for power efficiency. (1) Core: The Cortex-M3 executes Thumb-2 instructions with the NVIC supporting maskable interrupts and configurable priority levels. The 36MHz maximum clock is achieved through an internal PLL multiplying the external crystal (4-16MHz) or internal 8MHz RC oscillator. (2) Memory Bus: The AHB bus matrix connects the CPU and DMA to Flash, SRAM, and peripheral bridges. The 7-channel DMA supports memory-to-peripheral and peripheral-to-memory transfers for USART, SPI, I2C, and ADC. (3) ADC: The 12-bit successive-approximation ADC converts in 1us per channel. An analog watchdog feature generates an interrupt when the converted value falls outside programmed thresholds. An internal temperature sensor is connected to ADC channel 16. (4) Low Power: Sleep mode stops the CPU but keeps peripherals running. Stop mode halts all clocks and reduces current to microamp range. Standby mode powers down the core with only RTC and backup register retention via VBAT.
