The SN74LVC1G32DCKR is a single 2-input positive-OR gate from Texas Instruments’ LVC family, designed for 1.65V to 5.5V VCC operation. It performs the Boolean function Y = A + B (or Y = Ā·B̄ in negative logic) in positive logic. The output goes high when either or both inputs are high. Overvoltage-tolerant inputs accept signals up to 5.5V regardless of VCC, enabling down-translation from higher voltage domains. The Ioff feature supports live insertion and partial-power-down applications by disabling the output when VCC = 0V. With 3.6ns max propagation delay, ±24mA output drive at 3.3V, and only 10µA quiescent current, it delivers high speed with low power in the tiny SC70-5 package.

The SN74LVC1G32 implements a 2-input OR gate using CMOS transistor pairs. The output Y is high when either input A or input B (or both) is above VIH. The CMOS implementation uses a parallel PMOS pull-up network and a series NMOS pull-down network, the complement of the AND gate structure. Overvoltage-tolerant inputs use isolation transistors to prevent input voltages above VCC from forward-biasing parasitic diodes. The Ioff circuit disconnects the output stage when VCC is removed, preventing current backflow. The push-pull CMOS output swings rail-to-rail with symmetric source/sink drive capability.

  • Multi-Source Interrupt: Combine multiple interrupt sources (e.g., timer interrupt and external interrupt) into a single MCU interrupt pin. When either source goes active-high, the OR output goes high, triggering the MCU. The MCU then polls each source to identify which one triggered. The 5.5V-tolerant inputs allow interrupt sources from different voltage domains.
  • Fault Detection: OR together multiple fault signals (overtemperature, overcurrent, undervoltage) into a single fault flag. Any fault triggers the combined output, alerting the system controller. The fast 3.6ns propagation ensures minimal delay in fault detection. Tie unused inputs to GND to avoid floating inputs.
  • Level-Translating OR: OR a 5V signal and a 3.3V signal together with the gate powered from 3.3V. Both inputs are overvoltage-tolerant, so the 5V signal is safely accepted while the output swings 0 to 3.3V. This combines level translation and logic in a single gate, saving board space compared to a translator + OR gate solution.
