The MT7628NN from MediaTek is a router-on-a-chip integrating a 580MHz MIPS 24KEc CPU, 2T2R 802.11n 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio, and 5-port 10/100 Fast Ethernet switch. It supports up to 256MB DDR2 via a 16-bit interface, SPI flash up to 512Mbit with 4B address mode, USB 2.0 Host, PCIe 1.1 Root Complex, and rich peripheral interfaces including I2C, I2S, SPI, PCM, UART, GPIO, and SD-XC. The Wi-Fi subsystem supports 300Mbps PHY data rate with MRC and STBC, 16 multiple BSSID, and comprehensive security (WEP/TKIP/AES/WPA/WPA2/WAPI). Green AP features include Intelligent Clock Scaling and DDR2 self-refresh mode. Software support includes Linux 2.6/3.10 SDK, eCos, and OpenWrt.

The MT7628NN integrates all essential networking functions in a single SoC. (1) CPU Subsystem: A MIPS 24KEc core runs at 580MHz with 64KB I-Cache and 32KB D-Cache, executing routing, security, and application software. (2) Wi-Fi MAC/Baseband: The 802.11n MAC and baseband processor handles frame formatting, ACK generation, aggregation, and security. The 2T2R baseband supports MIMO with STBC and MRC. (3) RF Transceiver: The integrated 2.4GHz radio includes PA, LNA, and T/R switch. (4) Ethernet Switch: The 5-port FE switch with integrated PHY provides wire-speed forwarding, VLAN, QoS, and MDIO management. (5) Memory Controller: The DDR1/DDR2 controller supports up to 256MB with 16-bit data bus. SPI controller supports NOR flash for bootloader and firmware storage. (6) Peripheral Bus: The OCP (Open Core Protocol) bus connects all peripheral blocks including USB 2.0, PCIe, I2C, SPI, UART, and GPIO through an arbiter.
