The MCP6541T-I/OT from Microchip Technology is a single-channel push-pull output comparator optimized for ultra-low-power applications. The 600 nA typical quiescent current enables years of battery operation in always-on monitoring circuits. The rail-to-rail input range extends 300 mV beyond both supply rails, accommodating the full input common-mode range without phase reversal. The push-pull output stage swings rail-to-rail, directly driving CMOS and TTL logic inputs without pull-up resistors. The 3.3 mV internal hysteresis prevents output oscillation due to input noise, which is critical for slowly-varying signals. The 1 pA input bias current preserves high-impedance source accuracy. The 4 us propagation delay supports moderate-speed applications. The AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualification enables automotive use. The SOT-23-5 package provides a minimal footprint.

The MCP6541T-I/OT uses a CMOS input stage that provides the 1 pA input bias current and rail-to-rail common-mode range. The input stage is followed by a high-gain differential amplifier that compares the IN+ and IN- voltages. When IN+ exceeds IN- by more than the offset voltage plus hysteresis, the output drives to VDD (logic HIGH). When IN- exceeds IN+ by the same threshold, the output drives to VSS (logic LOW). The 3.3 mV internal hysteresis creates two distinct switching thresholds: a higher threshold for positive-going inputs and a lower threshold for negative-going inputs. This hysteresis window prevents the output from chattering when the input signal slowly crosses the threshold or has noise superimposed. The push-pull CMOS output stage uses complementary P-channel and N-channel transistors to actively drive the output to both VDD and VSS, unlike open-drain comparators that require an external pull-up resistor. The 600 nA quiescent current is achieved by operating the internal amplifier at very low bias currents, which limits the bandwidth and results in the 4 us propagation delay.
