The MCP1700T-3302E/TT from Microchip Technology is a 250 mA CMOS low-dropout positive voltage regulator with a fixed 3.3 V output. Its extremely low 1.6 uA typical quiescent current makes it ideal for battery-powered applications where standby time is critical. The 178 mV typical dropout voltage at 250 mA allows operation with minimal headroom between input and output. The device is stable with only a 1 uF ceramic output capacitor, simplifying PCB design. AEC-Q100 qualification ensures automotive-grade reliability. The wide 2.3 V to 6.0 V input range supports single-cell Li-ion and multi-cell alkaline battery configurations.

The MCP1700T-3302E/TT uses a P-channel MOSFET pass element controlled by an error amplifier that compares the divided output voltage against an internal bandgap reference. The P-channel MOSFET allows low dropout operation because no gate drive voltage above VIN is needed. The error amplifier drives the gate to regulate the output at 3.3 V. The 1.6 uA quiescent current is achieved by biasing the internal circuitry at very low current levels. The output voltage is set by an internal trimmed resistor divider, providing ±0.4% typical accuracy. Short-circuit protection limits the output current when VOUT drops below the regulation threshold. Thermal shutdown disables the output when the die temperature exceeds approximately 145°C. The device requires only 1 uF output capacitance for stability due to the internal compensation.
