The AT24CS01-STUM-T from Microchip Technology is a 1Kb I2C serial EEPROM with a factory-programmed 128-bit unique serial number in a 5-pin SOT-23 package. The CS in the part number indicates the unique serial number feature, which is permanently locked and read-only, guaranteed unique across the entire CS series. The STUM suffix decodes as: ST=SOT-23-5 package, U=1.7V to 5.5V operating range, M=TSSOP-equivalent pinout, T=tape and reel. The 128-bit serial number eliminates the need for manufacturers to program unique identifiers during production, reducing assembly time and ensuring serialization integrity. The EEPROM array supports byte and 8-byte page writes with 5ms self-timed write cycles, 1 million cycle endurance, and 100-year data retention.

The AT24CS01 operates through three subsystems: (1) I2C Interface: A standard I2C (2-wire) serial interface with Schmitt-trigger filtered inputs for noise suppression. The device address is set by the A0 pin (hardware address bit) and the I2C slave address byte. The interface supports standard mode (100kHz), fast mode (400kHz at 1.7V), and fast mode plus (1MHz at 2.5V+). Read operations can be random (address-specified) or sequential (current address auto-increment). (2) EEPROM Array: 128 bytes of electrically erasable programmable read-only memory organized as 16 pages of 8 bytes each. Writes can be byte-level or page-level (up to 8 bytes per write cycle). The self-timed write cycle completes within 5ms, during which the device does not acknowledge I2C transactions (used for polling write completion). The hardware write-protect (WP) pin prevents write operations to the entire array when pulled high. (3) Serial Number: A separate 128-bit (16-byte) memory area containing a factory-programmed unique identifier. This area is permanently write-protected and can only be read. The serial number is accessed via a dedicated I2C slave address (0x58), separate from the main EEPROM address (0x50/0x51).
