The AD8616ARZ from Analog Devices is a dual-channel precision CMOS rail-to-rail operational amplifier featuring 20MHz gain bandwidth, 1pA input bias current, and 80uV offset voltage (B grade) in SOIC-8 package. The combination of ultra-low input bias current and rail-to-rail input/output operation makes it ideal for high-impedance sensor interfaces such as photodiode transimpedance amplifiers and piezoelectric sensor conditioning. The 8nV/sqrt(Hz) input voltage noise at 1kHz is exceptionally low for a CMOS amplifier, enabling sensitive analog front-end designs. The ARZ suffix denotes SOIC-8 package with industrial temperature range.

The AD8616ARZ operates as a dual-channel precision CMOS operational amplifier. (1) The CMOS input stage uses a folded-cascode architecture with back-gate biasing to achieve the ultra-low 1pA input bias current, making it suitable for high-impedance sources where even nanoamp-level bias current would cause significant offset errors. The rail-to-rail input stage uses complementary N-channel and P-channel differential pairs. (2) The precision offset voltage of 80uV (B grade) is achieved through laser trimming of the input pair during manufacturing. The 8nV/sqrt(Hz) input noise is exceptionally low for a CMOS amplifier, achieved through optimized input pair geometry and bias current distribution. (3) The rail-to-rail output stage uses a push-pull Class AB architecture with both PMOS and NMOS output devices, allowing the output to swing to within millivolts of both supply rails under light load conditions. The 12V/us slew rate and 20MHz bandwidth provide adequate speed for most medium-frequency sensor applications.
