The USB6B1RL from STMicroelectronics is a 4-line ESD protection device for USB 2.0 interfaces, providing +/-4kV contact discharge protection with low 3pF capacitance in SOIC-8.

The USB6B1RL is a monolithic TVS diode array designed specifically for USB 2.0 ESD protection. It integrates steering diodes and a central TVS clamp device in a single SOIC-8 package. Under normal operation, the low-capacitance steering diodes (typically 6pF) present minimal signal degradation on the high-speed USB data lines. When an ESD strike occurs, the steering diodes route the transient energy to the TVS clamp, which avalanches to limit the voltage to a safe level (typically 6V clamping at 3A IEC 61000-4-2). The device can withstand up to 15kV contact discharge per IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4. The integrated design eliminates the need for discrete TVS devices on each data line, reducing BOM count and board space.
