Based on the PIC16 mid-range core with 35 instructions, it integrates 14KB Flash, 368 bytes RAM, and 256 bytes EEPROM. Peripherals include CCP and Enhanced CCP modules with auto-shutdown PWM, MSSP (SPI/I2C), EUSART with RS-485/LIN support, two comparators, and a programmable on-chip voltage reference. The precision internal oscillator is factory calibrated to ±1%.

The PIC16F887 uses the same PIC16 mid-range core as the PIC16F886 but in a 44-pin TQFP package providing 35 I/O pins and 14 ADC channels. The additional I/O pins (PORTD and PORTE) expand the number of simultaneously accessible peripheral functions, allowing concurrent use of the EUSART, MSSP, CCP, ECCP, comparators, and ADC without pin conflicts. The Enhanced CCP module can drive up to four PWM outputs with auto-shutdown capability, enabling full-bridge or half-bridge motor drive configurations. The 14-channel ADC supports simultaneous sampling and hold for multiplexed analog input monitoring.
