The BQ76952PFBR from Texas Instruments is a highly integrated high-accuracy battery monitor and protector designed for 3-series to 16-series Li-Ion, Li-Polymer, and LiFePO4 battery packs. It features two independent ADCs for simultaneous current and voltage sampling, achieving cell voltage measurement accuracy of less than 10 mV typical and coulomb counter input offset of less than 1 uV typical. The device integrates a charge pump for driving high-side NFET protection MOSFETs, enabling autonomous protection without host intervention. Support for up to nine external thermistors plus an internal temperature sensor provides comprehensive thermal monitoring. The integrated OTP memory allows customers to program custom configurations on the production line.

The BQ76952PFBR continuously monitors cell voltages, pack current, and temperatures using its dual ADC architecture. One ADC digitizes cell voltages and GPIO voltages while the other measures coulomb counter current across an external sense resistor, enabling simultaneous voltage and current sampling for accurate state-of-charge calculations. Protection thresholds are programmable via I2C/SPI/HDQ registers; when a fault is detected (overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, overtemperature, etc.), the device autonomously drives the protection FETs off via the integrated charge pump. Cell balancing can be performed autonomously based on voltage differences or controlled by the host MCU. The device supports multiple power modes: NORMAL (286 uA), SLEEP (24-41 uA), DEEPSLEEP (9-10 uA), and SHUTDOWN (1 uA) to optimize battery life during storage and operation.
