The MIC2026-1YM-TR from Microchip is a dual-channel integrated high-side power switch optimized for USB and general-purpose power distribution applications. Each of the two independent switches can handle up to 500mA with an on-resistance of 300mOhm (typical at 5V), providing low voltage drop at full load (150mV at 500mA). The device integrates all necessary protection features: current limiting prevents damage from short circuits and overload conditions, thermal shutdown protects against excessive power dissipation, and undervoltage lockout ensures the switches remain off until the supply voltage is adequate. The open-drain fault flag (FLG) for each channel is asserted low during overcurrent, thermal shutdown, or undervoltage conditions, allowing the host MCU to detect and respond to faults. The controlled output slew rate limits inrush current when driving capacitive loads, reducing system-level EMI and preventing supply voltage droop. Reverse current blocking prevents current from flowing from the output back to the input when the switch is off. The -1 suffix indicates the switch enable polarity (active high) and the current limit value. The dual-channel architecture is ideal for two-port USB hub applications where each USB port needs independent power switching and fault detection, all in a single 8-pin SOIC package. The MIC2026-1YM-TR operates as a dual high-side N-channel MOSFET power switch with integrated protection. Key subsystems include: (1) N-Channel MOSFET Switch – each channel uses an N-channel MOSFET with an internal charge pump generating a gate voltage above VIN to fully enhance the switch; the 300mOhm RDS(on) at 5V provides low voltage drop; (2) Current Limiting – each switch has a current-sense circuit that monitors the MOSFET current; when the current exceeds approximately 500mA, the gate drive is reduced to limit the current; the fault flag (FLG) is asserted low to indicate the overcurrent condition; in current limit, the power dissipation (VIN x I_LIMIT, since VOUT is near 0V during a short) can cause thermal shutdown; (3) Thermal Shutdown – each switch has an independent thermal sensor; if the junction temperature exceeds approximately 135C, the switch is turned off and the FLG is asserted; the switch auto-recovers when the temperature drops below the hysteresis threshold; (4) Controlled Slew Rate – the output voltage transition is slew-rate limited during turn-on and turn-off; this limits the dV/dt at the output, reducing inrush current into capacitive loads (I = C x dV/dt) and minimizing EMI from fast edges; (5) Undervoltage Lockout – when VIN drops below approximately 2.5V, both switches are forced off regardless of the EN inputs, preventing operation with insufficient supply voltage; (6) Reverse Current Blocking – when the switch is off, an internal circuit prevents current from flowing from OUT to IN, which would occur through the MOSFET body diode.
